Styling Distressed Denim For Summer

This summer I have gotten a lot of wear out of these gorgeous distressed denim jeans. I think pale, distressed denim is just the most perfect thing for the warmer months, and the frayed detail on the hem of these jeans just screams summer.

For me, denim is something I wear year around. It’s not warm enough where I live to say goodbye completely to the jeans over summer, so on overcast or cooler summer days like this, you’ll often find me opting for lighter denim. I will admit though, these pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago and these jeans are now a bit too tight for me to be wearing on a regular basis. Sadly I’ll have to say goodbye to these until after July!

I know a lot of people tend to opt for darker denim as it’s somewhat of a “safer” colour when it comes to styling. So here are a few of my favourite tips for styling lighter and distressed denim pieces in summer

Keep it light. I’ll almost always pair my pale denim with other pale colours to keep it light and fresh for summer. A simple white tee or a blouse pairs perfectly and is super comfy and casual while still looking put together. I find darker colours like brown, burgundy, navy etc can look quite heavy when paired with pale denim so I’ll stay away from these and opt for lighter pastel or neutral colours instead.

Pretty it up. I personally always like my outfit to have an element of “girly” to it, and I find that distressed denim can sometimes look a little more edgy or hard. So I like to pair my distressed denim with softer, floaty fabrics that give my outfit a little more of a feminine edge. Of course, if this isn’t your style, then distressed denim also looks amazing with a band tee for an edgier look!

Avoid heavy boots. I’m a total ankle boot addict, although I try and stay away from pairing boots with pale denim during summer. If I do, the boots will always be a bootie style and will always be either a soft brown or neutral shade. Instead I’ll generally opt for a pair of nude heels or ballet flats, as I love how these look with denim.

Accessorise for a more glam look: Distressed denim is usually thought of as more casual and laid back, but pop on some jewellery, add a pair of heels and a blouse or blazer, and the look is perfect for a summers night out.
