The Botanic Alchemist Exfoliating Powder + Masque Review

The Botanic Alchemist - Exfoliating Powder + Masque

When it comes to testing out and writing about new skincare, my favourite products are always masks and exfoliators. So when I came across this product from The Botanic Alchemist, I got even more excited as it is a 2-in-1 product, and I love nothing more than a product that multitasks!

The Botanic Alchemist is a fairly new brand to me, and I was interested to learn more about them. They specialise in waterless skincare, which means that the products do not need to contain preservatives or other fillers to keep them from turning bad. All of the products are made from pure, natural ingredients, and many of these ingredients are also organic. They are also a NZ brand, and I personally love to support local brands.

The Exfoliating Powder + Masque is a loose, dry powder that you activate by mixing with water. I find these types of products to be really cool as you can customise them to work best with your skin type. For example, I prefer a little more of a gritty scrub, so I’ll use a little less water to mix the powder. If you have sensitive skin, or prefer something a little more gentle, then you can simply add a little more water to the product to make it a little runnier. Dry powders like this are also fun as you can mix them with oils and elixirs to get even more out of your skincare.

This product is designed to exfoliate the skin as well as draw impurities from the pores. Not only is it a manual exfoliator, but a chemical exfoliator as this product contains pineapple and pumpkin powders which are well known for their enzymatic exfoliation. It’s no wonder really that my skin always feels so smooth after using this product! As well as the two fruit powders, Rhassoul Clay helps to draw the impurities from the skin, and Colloidal Oatmeal helps to calm and soothe the skin.

I’ve been using this mask regularly in an attempt to clean up my skin, and I have to say it works wonders. I’ve been using it around 3-4 times a week, either first thing in the morning, or at night after cleansing. I’ll make it up to a slightly gritty texture and apply it to my face, massaging it in in circular motions to let the exfoliators do their thing. I’ll then leave it on for up to 20 minutes to let the clay work it’s magic. As it dries, the mask does harden off, but it’s not at all uncomfortable. It then removes easily with a little water and a washcloth – again I like to use circular motions to remove the mask, just to get a little extra exfoliating happening!

Overall, I love this mask and if you have dull skin, or suffer from acne, blackheads, or rough skin, then this would be a fab product for you. At $31.95, it’s also really affordable, and since you only use a small amount each time, a jar goes a long way. The dry powder also means the ingredients are kept active for longer, so you know each time you use the mask it’s still fresh, active, and working it’s magic on your skin!
