I’ve mentioned this before, but before being pregnant, I kind of assumed that all maternity wear was ugly and unflattering. I had expectations of living in leggings and baggy tshirts for the entire pregnancy, and as someone who loves her fashion, this killed me a little inside. It wasn’t until I started looking at maternity clothes that I realised just how incredibly stylish they are. In fact, with most maternity clothing items, you would never know that it’s actually maternity! Skinny jeans, stylish dresses, even denim cut-offs are all available in maternity ranges, and can be styled exactly how you would pre-pregnancy. There are so many options for pregnant mamas to continue looking stylish throughout their pregnancy, and I personally think that during this time if you look good, you feel good!
The other thing I was a little bit worried about when it came to buying pregnancy clothing, was how much wear I’d get out of it. I didn’t want to buy items I’d only wear for a handful of months, before they no longer fit or were useful. Luckily many maternity styles these days are designed to be worn not only during pregnancy, but during breastfeeding and beyond too. Many tops and dresses have built in (discreet!) breastfeeding access, that means that the items can continue to be worn after bubs is born and they still serve a practical purpose. Plus, many of the maternity items are perfect for wearing in the months after baby, where you are potentially still a little self-conscious about your new body shape, and would prefer to wear something that is flattering, comfy, yet still stylish!
In my opinion, the best way to dress during pregnancy is the way YOU feel the best. Some mama’s love to show off their growing bumps in fitted dresses, while others (myself included), opt for more flowy and forgiving things. I never really wanted to draw too much attention to my bump, so I generally opted for skinny jeans and floaty tops, and I skipped all of the tighter fitting stuff. Pregnancy is such a crazy time, and everyone has different ways that they approach it, and different things they feel the best wearing.
STYLISH STORES TO SHOP AT FOR PREGNANT MAMAS
- Outershell Clothing – gorgeous casual clothes for mamas that look great and are affordable! They have a maternity range and a non-maternity range, and are one of my fave brands.
- Salty Crush – while not a maternity brand, many of the styles Salty Crush sell are perfect for maternity style, especially if you are pregnant during the summer. These items will also work perfectly in your wardrobe post-maternity
- ASOS – their maternity range is amazing, and I love their oversized sweaters and their leggings are a must-buy
- Moolk – Their clothes are so pretty and don’t look at all like maternity/breastfeeding styles. These items will last long after pregnancy
That sweater is so cool!! It looks awesome on too. I’m still wearing all of my maternity clothes almost 13 months on since I’m still breastfeeding and it’s SO hard to find nice, non-breastfeeding clothes that are easy to feed and discreet in public 🙂

Thanks Nicole! It’s super comfy and warm too so will be perfect for winter! That’s great you are still wearing your clothes 13 months on. It always seems such a waste to buy maternity clothing for just a couple of months, so it’s great you can get that extra wear out of it!
