Chocolate Bliss Balls That Are SO Easy!

Simple Cacao Bliss Balls - The Lilly Mint Blog

For the past few months or so, I have been very particular about what I am buying when I visit the supermarket. Instead of leaving with a trolley full of fizz, chips and chocolate, like I used to, I am only buying healthy foods. I’ve dropped a lot of snack foods from my diet and no longer have chips or chocolate in the house. I used to love my chocolate, and dropping dairy from my diet meant that I had to say goodbye to this beloved sweet treat. In it’s place I started eating bliss balls – healthy little truffle sized balls made from all sorts of goodies like nuts, dates and other yummy raw ingredients. These things are delicious and it’s safe to say I’m a little obsessed. But because they aren’t full of refined sugars, dairy or processed ingredients, I don’t have to feel bad if I eat far more than I should!

These chocolate bliss balls are super easy to make and they are such a delicious treat! This recipe was adapted from a recipe given to me by a friend, and you can adjust the recipe to suit how many you’d like to make- it’s hard to go wrong!

Chocolate Bliss Balls Recipe

  • 3/4 cup (70 grams) of sliced almonds
  • 3/4 cup of pitted dates
  • 1 + 1/2 tablespoons of cacao powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 + 1/2 tablespoons of water

Chop the nuts into small pieces. You can use either chop them up yourself or use a food processor to do this. I chopped the dates up roughly too, before putting the chopped dates, almonds, cacao powder, salt and 1 tablespoon of the water into the Nutribullet (or your food processor). Pulse with the Nutribullet until blended. Add the extra 1/2 tablespoon of water (if needed), and pulse again quickly. You should have a slightly damp (but not wet) mixture. Don’t overdo it with the water – you need a lot less than you think and the mixture will stick together when you start to roll the balls

Form into balls – I used about a heaped teaspoon of mixture for each ball. Roll in coconut and set in the fridge overnight. These also taste delicious with a couple of drops of food-grade peppermint essence mixed in. The best way to do this is to add it to the water then add it to the mixture. This gives a delicious minty chocolate taste that is a fun twist!

These sound so good! I’m trying to be healthier too – purely because I keep gaining weight and am sick of having to lose it again. It’s like a couple of weeks of gaining, a couple weeks dieting to get my weight back, then a couple of gaining again etc… I’m a vegan too, so recipes like these are perfect 😀
