Frank Hair Duo Review

Frank Hair Duo

It’s likely that you’ve heard of the brand Frank Body and their famous coffee body scrub. Well-known for their skincare products, Frank Body have now made the move into haircare with the new Frank Hair Duo. This is a power hair duo containing the Caffeinated Hair Mask and Caffeinated Scalp Scrub. I was kindly gifted these a few weeks back and have been using them regularly, so I thought I would share my thoughts on Frank’s new offering.

First up, Frank is a brand that is pretty natural. I say pretty natural, as some of their products do contain some chemicals which truely green beauty enthusiasts might choose avoid. They are silicone, paraben, and sulfate free, and the brand prides themselves on using no nasty chemicals or fillers in any of their products.

Secondly, how freaking cute is the packaging? I guess I’m a sucker for anything pink, but I thought the packaging was really cute and it looks nice in the bathroom. I also really like that the products are packaged in upside-down squeezy tubes, which makes it all that much easier to get all the last little bits out.

So let’s take a look at the products…..

Frank Caffeinated Scalp Scrub

I was really excited to try this as I’ve never used a scalp scrub before, and in all honesty, the thought of exfoliating my scalp never really crossed my mind. It makes sense though, as you exfoliate your skin for the best results, so why not your head for good hair, right? This scrub is designed to remove product build up, and the exfoliation process also helps to promote healthier hair. The key ingredients are;

  • Green Caffeine: rich in antioxidants and fatty acids to help promote hair growth
  • Peppermint: helps to increase the circulation in the scalp and removes products build up
  • Eucalyptus: keeps the scalp healthy and provides a good place for hair to grow from

The key ‘scrubby’ ingredient is walnut shell, which is finely crushed to provide a generously gritty, but not too rough, scrub.

The first time I used this, it came out of the tube way faster than I expected, so I ended up with more of a 50c amount rather than the pea size amount that’s recommended. I ended up just blobbing it all over my scalp and rubbing it in with the tips of my fingers and I actually found this a really easy way to apply the product. The act of massaging it in was actual bliss, as really when was the last time your actually massaged your own head? The smell of the peppermint is delightful and is one of my favourite scents to use in the shower as I shower in the morning and it’s such an invigorating way to wake up and get ready for the day.

When it came time to wash it out, I was actually a bit worried as it feels really quite gritty on your hair. Luckily it’s super easy to get out, and after a rinse and a shampoo, I couldn’t feel any remaining traces in my hair. I was really impressed with this as I had half expected to have gritty bits in my hair even once it was dry.

Frank Caffeinated ‘Go Longer’ Hair Mask

I love a good hair mask, although finding one that’s on the good side of natural can actually be quite tough. Most hair masks just coat your hair in silicones so it feels all shiny and smooth, but in reality it’s actually done nothing for your hair. The Frank Hair Mask is free from silicones, so it’s actually the ingredients doing their thing that makes your hair feel amazing.

This mask is designed not only to make your hair look and feel amazing, but to also help promote hair growth and keep what’s there in good condition. It’s extremely hydrating, yet non-greasy, so it ticks all the boxes.

Key ingredients in this one are….

  • Coffee: again, helps with the healthy scalp
  • Comfrey root: never heard of it, but apparently it restores moisture to the hair
  • Hydrolised Keratin: this is the star ingredient that makes you hair feel amazing without the silicones. It also reduces frizz and breakage and makes the hair super soft.

I’ll be honest, I loved this mask right from the first time I used it.  It’s so easy to apply and use; I applied mine to the ends of my hair from sort of the ears down. I also applied it before I shampooed my hair, as I always condition/hair mask before shampooing as it just works better for my type of hair. I leave it in for around 5 minutes, even though the tube says 10, and I still find I get good results.

Quite possibly my favourite thing about this mask is that it doesn’t leave my hair greasy one bit. Quite often when I use hair masks, I’ll have to wash my hair a couple of days later, with this mask I still got my full 4 days before having to wash my hair again. It also steps in the place of conditioner, meaning that applying a hair mask doesn’t take any extra time in the shower (a must when you have a small child, right?)

Overall….

I’m really impressed with this Hair Duo, and I also like the fact that you can purchase each product individually (and they don’t cost the earth) I think the Scalp Scrub is brilliant for people who use a lot of product in their hair (especially things like gel, mousse, or dry shampoo) as it will really help to remove that product build up. Personally, while I do enjoy using it and it does make my scalp feel really nice afterwards, I don’t use a lot of product in my hair at all, so I don’t know whether I’m really getting any benefit from this one. I guess time will tell, as I have only been using these products a matter of weeks.

I love love love the hair mask, and this will now be a new addition to my hair care routine. I love how it makes my hair look and feel, and I love that it doesn’t weigh it down, and that it can take the place of my conditioner. I’m currently using this every second wash and will continue to do so.

The Hair Duo is available as either a duo ($34.95AUD) from their website, or for Kiwi’s you can grab the products individually from Mecca, with the Scalp Scrub being $21 and the Mask is $18.50.
