I totally wasn’t going to do an update this month since I did one last month, but 15 months is kind of a big one right…. Jack has learnt so much this month and it’s crazy how smart that wee guy is. I’m amazed at how much he knows and how many things he can identify. While he is still learning to communicate with us, I can tell he really understands a good chunk of what we are saying to him. We think he must understand upwards of 200 words now and can say around 10!
New words this month include “garden”, “shark”, and “bird”. He is becoming very vocal and he is always pointing at things and yelling the word. He especially loves cars, and it’s a very slow trip to the shop down the road as every time a car goes past he has to stop to look at it and yell “caaarrrrr”. It’s so cute. Jack also has this little chair set up in the corner of the room that he can climb up on to. We call it his bird watching chair as he loves to look at the birds and bang on the window while yelling “birrrdyyyy” 😆
Jack also really loves reading and we must read about 20 books a day. He loves lift the flap books, and any books about animals. We have some that we read over and over again as he loves them so much. He also really enjoys his picture book and can name a huge number of things in it. We are also still doing his flash cards each day, although I’m starting to run out of words that he doesn’t know! He really loves learning so I encourage him to learn and explore as much as he can. I try and make everything as educational for him as possible!
Our new game is animal noises! I’ll ask Jack “what sounds does a dog make?” and he goes “ah ah ah” which means “ruff ruff ruff”. He also know what noises a cow, cat, pig and snake make and his piggy snorts are the absolute funniest thing ever. This is one of my favourite games to play with him as well as peekaboo which he loves!
He also really enjoys playing by himself and he’ll quite happily go off and play with his shape sorter, cups, or truck, or you’ll find him sitting on the couch looking at a book. I think it’s good for him to have time by himself, so I just leave him to it and do what I have to do.
His walking is getting better and better and he’s almost at the point of starting to run! He’s so quick! He loves getting outside, and will often stand at the back door when he wants to go out and play. He’s learnt the whole process of putting his jacket and shoes on, so if he knows we are going out he will go and get his shoes and sit down to have the put on. He’s so clever!
Jack is still in his cot in his nursery at 15 months old. At this stage we are planning on renovating our spare room and moving him in there and into a big bed around the age of 2. My goal at the moment is to slowly transition him out of his sleep sack and onto using sheets and blankets in his cot, in preparation of moving in to the big bed. I’m thinking summer is a good time to try this, so I’ve just purchased a set of cot sheets and a pillow. I’m also hoping to try and wean him off his dummy soon too – we’ll see how that goes as he loves it when he goes to bed!
His sleeping is still going really well, and he’s sleeping 6.45pm – about 6.30am in the morning. He hardly wakes up after he goes to bed and I am loving getting a decent nights sleep as well as being able to have a bit of quite relaxing time before bed too. I guess Jack likes sleep as much as his mum! He is just doing the one nap now and goes down around 11am and wakes up anytime between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
Honestly, 15 months old is hands down my favourite age. I wish I could pause time! I know everyone raves about the newborn stage but I think the toddler stage is so much more fun. I love seeing him learn new things every day and I love seeing him become more affectionate. He loves his cuddles now (even if he doesn’t stay still for more than 2 seconds) and hearing him say mama when I walk in the room just melts my heart. I couldn’t wish for a more amazing little dude.
