You guys loved my last Kmart toy post, so I thought I’d share a few new Kmart toddler toys with you all. It’s no secret I love Kmart, and probably about 90% of Jack’s toys are from there. I really love their wooden toy range as the toys are beautifully made and are also really affordable. If you missed my first post, you can check it out here!
Here’s a few new Kmart toys that Jack got for Christmas and has been really enjoying. We try to give Jack as many open ended toys as possible (meaning that there are lots of different ways to play with them). This means the toys grow with him and he can learn to use them in different ways. It also encourages him to explore and play as well as also being educational!
I should probably say for my overseas readers, that Kmart in New Zealand is not like Kmart in the USA. It’s more along the lines of Target – it has a fab range of toys, kids wear, womens wear and homewares and I purchase a lot from Kmart just due to it’s affordability and great range!
Also, like my last post, I’ll include the guide age for these toys and also what age I gave them to Jack at – just keep in mind we are supervising him when he is playing with anything that he is deemed slightly too young for!
WOODEN CLOCK PUZZLE
This wooden clock puzzle is so many toys in one! It’s a great shapes puzzle for younger toddlers and can also be used to teach the time as they get older. The clock hands move and each puzzle piece has the hour one one side and the 5 minute interval on the other – it’s a really great toy that’s both fun and educational, and it’s only $5!
Recommended age on this one is 2+ but we gave this to Jack at 18 months as the pieces aren’t too small.
ALPHABET PUZZLE
This chunky alphabet puzzle is a great way for kids to learn both hand eye co-ordination and also learn the alphabet. Jack has been really into learning the letters lately, and while we originally purchased this puzzle, this chunky one is much better for seeing the shapes of the letters. As he grows, we can also use this puzzle to teach him to spell words. Jack also loves putting these brightly coloured wooden letters in the back of his truck and driving them around. For $9 this is another really good buy!
Recommended age on this one is 2+ but again, we gave this to Jack at 18 months as he is supervised with it and the pieces aren’t too small.
WOODEN SCHOOL BUS
This was a gift from Jack’s grandma and grandpa, and Jack has had so much fun with this school bus! It’s a wooden bus that’s the perfect size for little hands. It contains 7 wooden people that can be put in and out of the bus, and also has a functioning door and stop sign. The wheels go around really well and Jack has already had hours of entertainment from this one! This is a really solid toy and it’s taken being crashed into the doors and walls really well 😅 It’s well made and is currently one of Jack’s favourite toys – there are a few other vehicles in the set too
Recommended age on this one is 18 months+ and that is the time we gave it to Jack
DRUM SET
If your child is a music lover, this is such a great toy that they will play with for years to come. This 7 piece set includes a drum with drumsticks, a tambourine, a trumpet, and two maracas. Its a great way for toddlers to have fun, increase their musical ability, and also co-ordination. Jack loves playing with the drum and bangs away on it so enthusiastically. He also loves bring it over to someone to play for him so that he can dance! He isn’t too sure about the trumpet yet, and there’s been a few tears with that one, but as he gets older I think he will start to enjoy it. Best part about this toy is that the top of the drum comes off and you can store all the bits in it – such a great space saver!
Recommended age: 2+ years. We gave this to Jack at 18 months as there was nothing that could fall off it and no small parts.
PARKING GARAGE
Jack was given this for Christmas by his uncle and it’s been hugely popular! It’s a three storey parking garage that has a ramp that the vehicles can drive up and down, as well as a lift! It’s really well made, and requires just a small amount of assembly. It also comes with two wooden cars, however any Hot Wheels style cars fit and work well. This is great for hand eye co-ordination and is just a really fun toy for kids. Jack loves his cars and trucks so this is perfect!
Recommended age 3+ however we gave this to Jack at 18 months. I think a big part of this age restriction is the screws included in the assembly – we just ensured that all the parts are attached correctly and we supervise Jack while he plays with this.
WOODEN BALANCE BLOCKS
Grandma and Grandpa got this for Jack for Christmas as we wanted to get him some wooden animals that he could play with. Turns out its really hard to find wooden animals, so when we stumbled across this playset at Kmart, we knew it was perfect! It contains ten animals, two of each species, in different sizes. It also includes a balancing platform and the idea is that you stack the animals up to get them to balance on the boat. While I don’t think Jack quite gets the idea yet, he loves playing with the animals in his trucks etc, and I can see this toy growing with him and being used in different ways as he gets older!
Recommended age 18 months+ and we gave this to Jack at 18 months.
