What I’m Packing for a Winter Weekend Away

Pink suitcases in front of a mirror

I am SO excited for this weekend, as I am off to Queenstown for my dream Winter getaway. My partner surprised me with my dream weekend away – Queenstown (in June!), a trip to the Onsen hot pools (with a hot stone massage afterwards) and then to dinner and the LUMA lightshow. Queenstown is one of my absolute favourite places to visit and I have always wanted to go in June. There’s something so magical about visiting when it’s cold and I’m excited to get rugged up and just relax. If you want to know more about some awesome things to do in Queenstown, then you can read my post all about visiting Queenstown with kids.

So naturally I thought I’d share what I’m taking for my weekend getaway. My suitcase is planned around three main outfits that I’ll wear, plus I’ll take some extra things too (because admittedly I am an over packer and will always take more options than I need!) I am taking a lot of pieces from Salty Crush as I am just obsessed with their knitwear at the moment and I know it’s so warm and cosy.

For the travel to Queenstown, I’ve packed this gorgeous hot pink jumper. I love being comfy while I travel, and this oversized jumper ticks all the boxes. It’s super comfy and easy to wear and is very warm with its wool/acrylic blend. I’ve had a number of jumpers from Salty Crush and I’m always impressed with how well they wear and wash. The wool/acrylic blend means that they don’t pill and they are very thick and snuggly – a must for winter weather! I love the cuffed sleeves, there’s always something about a cuffed sleeve that makes you feel so warm and toasty!

If hot pink isn’t your thing, then this jumper comes in a number of colours, including both bright and natural tones. It’s available in sizes S/M and M/L, and I wear the S/M for an oversized fit (as a size 6)

This jersey would literally go with everything, and I plan to style mine with a merino underneath, a pair of faded denim jeans, and my white New Balance sneakers.

While we are up there I plan on wearing the gorgeous Adelen Cardigan in the shade Sand. This is literally the cardigan of my dreams and it is SO warm to wear. The soft checked pattern is extremely on-trend right now, and the neutral colours are definitely in my colour palette. Again this is a wool/acrylic bend so I expect it will wear really well, and I love how soft it is to the touch – it’s like being wrapped up in a big cozy blanket!

This cardigan also comes in a range of colours, including a very on-trend tan colour, that I was very tempted by! Again, this one comes in sizes S/M and M/L, with S/M being approx sizes 6-12 and M/L approx 12-16.

I’ll be wearing this one with light denim and my tan booties. It would also look super cute with my favourite tan fedora or a tan beanie – so I’ll take both! Perfect for keeping me warm while I’m out sightseeing in the mountain town.

For date night, I’m packing my gorgeous Tessa maxi dress. While this print isn’t available anymore, this dress style comes in a whole range of other gorgeous prints. I love maxis for winter as I can layer a v-neck merino underneath and a jacket on top. Since it’s a maxi length, I also get away with tights or leggings on underneath my dress and of course a pair of leather boots. That all helps to keep me warm while still being able to wear a dress on a cooler night – winning!

I wrote a full post on this dress (including fit tips) which you can read here.

I often get asked so many questions about my luggage, and I love my Nere suitcase from Strand. It’s the perfect overnight/weekend size and at 55cm it’s perfect for carry on too. It comes in heaps of different colours, as well as different sizes so you can match your luggage. Find my one here.
