Antipodes Skincare has been a long-time favourite brand of mine, and it’s been a brand I’ve used even before converting to only natural products. I can’t tell you how excited I was when I was browsing in Farmers one day, and the shop assistant was putting out the new shades of the Healthy Lipsticks. I stood there and swatched every one of them oohing and aahing over the stunning and completely wearable colours. Antipodes then kindly sent me three of the new shades to try out, and I’ll admit I was so excited opening up the box. Antipodes have really hit the nail on the head with these natural lipsticks, from the packaging to the incredible formulas, these lipsticks have been incredibly well thought out from start to finish.
Antipodes created these lipsticks as they were inspired by the fact that the average woman consumes around three kilograms of lipstick in her life time! It not only ends up in the body when we eat or drink, but the ingredients in lipsticks are also often absorbed in through the skin on the lips. When you see what ingredients are in traditional store brands, it’s incredibly scary to think that these chemicals are ending up in your body – traditional lipsticks can contain ingredients such as PEG’s, Parabens, and Fragrance – all of which are ending up directly in your body.
Antipodes have created these lipsticks with ingredients that are not only safe to consume – they are actually healthy for you! Ingredients like Avocado Oil, Calendua Oil, and Evening Primrose Oil all have health benefits, while also keeping the skin on the lips supple and soft. Beeswax, Jojoba Oil, Shea Butter, and Vitamin E are also all added to help with nourishing the lips. The pigments are derived from natural sources only, and are all FDA approved. What you get from these lipsticks is not only a stunning, vibrant colour, but also soft and nourished lips.
The three colours I received from Antipodes are all beautiful shades, and are very autumn appropriate. All three are incredibly long wearing, and fade out evenly throughout the day, to leave a beautiful looking stain on the lips. I’ve found I require minimal touch ups from all the shades, and I easily get around 4-6 hours out of each shade without requiring any attention.
South Pacific Coral: This shade was one that had really stood out to me when I swatched it in-store, so I can’t explain how thankful I am that Antipodes kindly sent it to me to try. It’s definitely my kind of colour – a soft pinky coral shade that is so vibrant, yet also really easy to wear. I love colours like this as they are perfect for wearing to work or out casually. It’s the perfect shade on the lips to look done without being too “done”.
Oriental Bay Plum: This colour looks quite dark in the tube, and I wasn’t sure originally whether it would be my kind of colour or not. Once swatched, it transforms into a buildable plum shade that leans quite pink. It’s one of those colours you can sheer over the lips for a soft wash of colour, or build up in layers for a more dramatic and rich colour. I actually really like this one and I think it’s a fab shade for the cooler months. I can see myself wearing this one A LOT.
Forest Berry Red: As you guys may know, I’m not really one for red lipstick as I find it a hard colour to wear. While everyone else looks stunning in red lips, I feel just a little off – especially when it’s a true red. While this one looks quite bright red in the tube, it transforms into a beautiful pinky berry red that is super flattering on most skintones. I wore this one to work a couple of times and got so many compliments. It’s one of the few reds I actually feel comfortable in, and the staying power on this one is amazing. I applied it around eight in the morning and it was still going strong when I left work at five at night. Absolutely no touch-ups required!
I’m really impressed with this range of lipsticks so far. They are super hydrating and feel lovely on the lips throughout the day. Their longevity is also impressive, and I love that as they do fade, they fade evenly. I’m quite fuss free when it comes to lippy, and I hate having to continually touch up, so these lipsticks are perfect for me. At $34 I think these are definitely worth the price – and if you’re lucky Farmers often has them on sale!
