How to Style: Boyfriend Jeans

How to style boyfriend jeans

The boyfriend and mom style jean is so hot right now, with so many people jumping on this trend. I’ll be honest, I’ve been a bit of a late comer to this trend as I’m definitely a skinny jeans kinda gal and I wasn’t 100% sure how to go about styling a looser fit jean. After playing around with a few different items of clothing, I’ve found a few ways to style these jeans.  I know there are others that are a little bit hesitant about this style of jeans so I thought why not write a blog post all about how to style boyfriend jeans!

I think the reason I’ve always been drawn to skinny jeans is that I like that they are fitted and therefore they make me feel more girly. With boyfriend jeans they are obviously a lot looser style, so I’ve also included a couple of tips for if you are wanting to get on board with this trend, but perhaps opt for a more girly, feminine style.

First up, let’s talk about the jeans. The ones I’m styling in this post are the Blake jean from Junkfood Jeans. They are a mid-rise (sits on the hip), have a straight leg, raw hemline and distressing and rips through the legs. These are supposed to be a medium to cropped fit but I am 163cm (5’3″) and these are definitely full length on me. I roll them over a couple of times for that relaxed cropped look, but if you are taller than me you could wear them down. Scroll right to the end of the post for fit tips for these jeans.

HOW TO STYLE BOYFRIEND JEANS

The first way I’m styling these is super simple yet chic with a white shirt, sneakers, and oversized sunnies. Obviously this is a really easy look just to throw on, yet it still looks quite put together. You could also pair this look with heels and jewellery for a more glam look, or slip on sandals for a summer casual look.

Another option for this is to also pair the jeans with a pink or floral shirt for that extra girly touch. This is a great way to add a bit of colour to your outfit, and also makes it feel a little more feminine. I’ve also swapped out the sneakers for pink ballet flats to tie in with my shirt.

A third way is this super cute leopard print tee. This is another casual look that’s easy to throw on and I love the tie detail on this tee. I’ve popped on a pair of boots and I’m good to go – this look is perfect for everyday casual and its super comfy.

This look is totally something I’d wear running errands or when I’m at home with Jack. A grey singlet, sneakers and a flannel pairs beautifully with these jeans for a “cool girl” laid back outfit.

Another more casual option is this look – a pink leopard tee, paired with a leather cap and ballet flats. I love tucking my tees into the boyfriend jeans using this little half tuck – I feel it looks better than a full tuck or leaving the top untucked!

This is a more dressy way to wear boyfriend jeans – pop on a pair of heels, some jewellery and a pretty flowy top. This look is perfect for date night!

Another more dressy way is to pair with a pretty tee and a blazer. This is definitely my kind of outfit – a blend of casual, girly and still a little dressy! This one might be my favourite look, as it looks like you’ve made an effort yet its just so easy to wear!

Fit tips: I am wearing the size XS or 8 in these for these photos. The recommendation for these ones is to size up, which I did, but in hindsight I totally could have gone for a XXS or 6. I’m not a very curvy gal, so if you are like me stick with your regualar size – if you have hips and a bum then I definitely recommend sizing up as they are a rigid denim. The size 8 is a very  oversized fit on me which makes them super comfy and since they are a looser style, I can totally get away with this.
