Today I wanted to share with you a Kiwi skincare brand, which I think anyone struggling with their skin should have on their radar! What is Mānuka Oil?
The ManukaRx products are infused with Mānuka Oil, which is sourced right here in New Zealand. While you might have heard about the healing properties of Mānuka honey, Mānuka Oil is much more powerful – in fact it’s topical antibacterial properties are 1000x greater! East Cape Mānuka Oil is similar to Australian Tea Tree oil, but it’s 20-30 times more effective against gram-positive bacteria (this is the bacteria which is often present on acne prone skin). It’s one of the most powerful essential oils, which is why ManukaRx choose to use it in their skincare!
ManukaRx source their Mānuka Oil from the Mānuka trees in the East Cape of New Zealand. Trees from this area have been shown to have a higher level of β-triketones, than the mānuka from any other areas. β-triketones are what give this oil its anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties.
ManukaRx Products
I have used a couple of ManukaRx products over the years, and have found their Foaming Facial Cleanse an absolutely fabulous cleanser. It’s lovely and light and really cleans the skin, without leaving the skin dry. A little bit also goes a long way too, so the pump bottle lasts for ages!
Recently I’ve been using a number of products from the ManukaRx hand care range. Hand care is something that is so incredibly important right now, as it’s never been more necessary to ensure your hands are clean and germ free. I know my poor hands are getting a hiding right now….. with the amount of hand washing and sanitising thats essential to avoid Covid, combined with the fact I’m currently a potty training mummy – my poor hands are getting washed anywhere of upwards 30+ times a day! As you can imagine, they get dry and cracked quickly, so I’m always on the lookout for effective products to combat this!
Here’s my thoughts on a few of the lifestyle products I’ve been trying from ManukaRx…
Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitiser
If you’ve been using a hand sanitiser lately, chances are it’s an alcohol based one – which, while effective, is ultra drying on the skin! Instead I’ve been preferring to opt for something a little more natural and gentle on the hands, while still getting rid of all the germs. The ManukaRx Alcohol-Free Sanitiser is actually created from lactic acid, derived from fermented plants, and it kills 99.9% of common germs! I feel so much better about using this natural hand sanitiser on Jack especially, and it’s nice to know it’s not harsh on his wee hands!
This sanitiser is scented with lemongrass which is one of my favourite scents. It’s so fresh and clean and uplifting, and much nicer than your regular chemically smelling sanitising products! It’s super easy to spray out of the bottle on to your hands, and it is much more hydrating than your regular santizer! I find normal sanitisers strip my hands to the point where they get incredibly dry and cracked, but this hand sanitiser doesn’t do this at all. My hands actually feel really soft after using this product which is a huge win, and I don’t feel so worried about using a product like this on Jack’s delicate skin!

Since it’s a spray, you can also use this as a trolley spray, or use it to wipe down tables etc while you are out and about – a must have with a toddler!!
Hand Cream with East Cape Mānuka Oil
As I mentioned above, potty training my toddler has killed my hands with all the constant washing and drying! So hand cream for me is an absolute must! The ManukaRx Hand Cream contains both East Cape Mānuka Oil and Kakadu Plum to keep your hands ultra soft and free from bacteria. I love the idea of an anti-bacterial and anti-microbial hand cream, as this means that when you have it on, it’s helping to fight the bacteria that your hands are coming into contact with on a daily basis!
This Hand Cream is a beautifully light formula that doesn’t feel the slightest bit greasy. It absorbs into your hands super fast, which I love (as there’s nothing worse than greasy prints all over your phone etc!), and it leaves your hands soft and hydrated. It’s delicately scented with lemongrass, which as I mentioned above, is one of my faves – it’s just so refreshing!
The other great thing about this hand cream is that you don’t need an awful lot – a little goes a long way, and it rubs into the skin easily. I can honestly say, this is one of the best hand creams I’ve tried – I’m super impressed!
Extra Gentle Cleansing Soap
I, for one, am so happy to see the return of bar soap. While body washes and other packaged liquid soaps have been popular over recent years, the humble bar soap has started to make a return which is absolutely fantastic for the planet! Bar soap is much more environmentally friendly and has lesser packaging than your plastic bottled packed soaps. The ManukaRx Extra Gentle Cleansing Soap is a traditional bar soap, packaged in recyclable cardboard, and created with sustainable palm oil.
The soap is packed with natural ingredients including shea butter, lavender and lemongrass, and of course Mānuka Oil for it’s anti-bacterial properties. This soap is suitable as either a hand or body soap, and is gentle enough to use on kids and even pets!
The smell of this soap is honestly incredible, and I wish you could smell how amazing it is through your screen! Lemongrass with notes of Lavender make for a beautiful, uplifting scent that’s perfect for use in the shower or washing your hands (and pairs beautifully with the Hand Cream!)
Natural Skin Ointment
This Natural Skin Ointment is the ultimate multi-tasker. Cracked or chapped skin, nappy rash, insect bites, and even minor burns and cuts are no match for this wee tube of goodness. This is one of those products that I like to keep in my bag as you never know when you might need it! As well as treating skin abrasions, this product also works wonderfully on super dry skin (I’ve used it on dry skin on my heels and it’s amazing!), and even as a natural lip balm! I’ve also been using it on a bit of eczema around my nose, and it’s really helped to reduce the redness and dryness that I’ve been experiencing.
Moisturising Lip Balm
When it comes to lip balm, my number one rule is it has to be natural! Many mainstream branded lip balms are actually packed with ingredients like petrolatum which are actually drying on the skin, and therefore you need to apply more balm to keep your lips soft… crafty right?
The ManukaRx Moisturising Lip Balm is completely natural and packed with lip loving goodies like Beeswax, Coconut Oil, Vitamin E, and of course East Cape Mānuka Oil. It glides on to the lips easily and leaves my lips feeling nourished and hydrated.
