Pregnancy Diary: Weeks 27 – 30

Pregnancy Diary Week 30

Week 27

I was feeling really good this week (well, during the day at least – more on that later!), and I was so happy to start to see a few of the big things get ticked off our list. Our double glazing went in, which is so ridiculously exciting as it means we said goodbye to the awful wooden windows that were in our house. They had so many cracks in them that you could actually see the curtain moving on a windy day, and I can’t imagine how cold it would have been in winter if we hadn’t replaced them! We also cracked into painting the toilet room, and I’ve taken it on as my little job as I can do pretty much most of it (aside from the ceilings as I really don’t want to go up the ladder too high!). We’ve gone from a miserable looking dirty cream colour to a fresh white and I love it, and we are planning to paint the laundry the same colour. So, all in all, it’s been a really busy and productive week!

I’ve been getting pretty sore and uncomfortable at nights which isn’t much fun. I sleep on my side (as they recommend you do after 20 weeks), and I’ll wake multiple times during the night with hip and rib pain. It’s so sore even to roll over some nights! I’ll definitely be having a chat to my midwife, but I think it’s just one of those fun pregnancy aches and pains! Luckily Panadol helps somewhat, although I’m not keen to take too much of that – it’s definitely a last resort!

Week 28

Another huge week for us, as they finished off our double glazing on our house and also we got our sofa delivered. We haven’t had a sofa for 4 months now, as our old one from our last house wouldn’t fit in the doors. Having the windows out was the perfect excuse to get it in, and I’m SO thrilled to have somewhere comfy to relax at nights. After spending all day working on the computer at the kitchen table, I was starting to get super uncomfortable, so it will be nice to have a sofa to chill on. Beforehand we were in bed by 7pm most nights as I couldn’t sit at the table any longer!

I went and did the dreaded glucose test this week and you know what, it was a piece of cake! I have no idea why people find it so hard and horrible and I’m someone who doesn’t do well with blood tests or anything medical related. The drink they make you have just tastes a little like very flat lemonade. I just sculled it in about 30 seconds and I think this was much better than just sipping away at it! Then you have to sit and wait for two hours before getting another blood test. This was a great time to catch up on writing some blog posts! Honestly, I know so many people hype this up to be awful, but it’s really not, so if you are a first time mummy don’t stress about this one!

Week 29

This week just flew by, and I can’t believe we are only two months or so away from meeting the little guy! I have to be honest, I’m getting to the stage where I’m looking forward to just having him here with us, as I’m really finding myself in a lot of discomfort now, especially while trying to sleep. Some mornings I wake up and I’m so sore, I feel like a little old lady hunched over as I crawl out of bed. Luckily everything loosens up during the day, but I’m not really looking forward to going to bed these nights, which is ironic as all I really feel like doing some days is sleeping!

Apart from that, I really can’t complain as I’m feeling good, and have actually been managing to get a bit done on the renovations front including more painting. Baby has been wriggling away, and I think by now I’m supposed to be counting kicks but I haven’t bothered as I feel him move all day, every day! He’s definitely an active one and I love it!

I had been looking to buy a rocker/bouncer for baby. The problem with a lot of rocker/bouncers is that they are powered by batteries (usually three C batteries), and you can’t manually rock them, they have to work via battery power. I can’t begin to imagine how quick the batteries would be used up if I was using this as often as I plan to, so I really wanted something I could just rock manually with my foot while I worked away. I came across the Tiny Love Rocker Napper and it seriously ticks all the boxes! It can be rocked manually, and takes batteries only to power the music/lights part. It can also be changed into a napper, which will be perfect for baby while he naps during the day or when we go up to Dunedin to my parents house (and eliminates the need for a Moses Basket!). As baby gets older it also coverts into a seat. I feel like I’m going to get A LOT of use out of this one! I got the grey version of this one. I actually can’t wait to put little bub in it and watch his face as he rock back and forth!

Week 30

Week 30 started with a trip to Dunedin for a couple of days, and I enjoyed getting to spend a bit of time with my parents. We also picked up our new car, and I had to say goodbye to my darling Lilly the Levin which I’ve been driving for 7 years. It’s been the most reliable little car, and I can’t believe how little I had to spend on it over the years! But it’s time to move on and the new car is bigger (and has 4 doors!)

I had a mild panic at the end of this week when I realised there are only 7-10 weeks until we meet little bub. The nursery is still a junk room, and we need to start on that in the next week or so. I’ve started cleaning it out, and it’s amazing how much “stuff” you accumulate over the years! I’m trying to pack everything into plastic boxes to put in the garage so it gets it out of the house and gives us a bit more space, and so baby actually has a wardrobe that’s not filled with random stuff!

On the renovations front, we have gotten all our quotes from the tradies and now we just need to push go to get everything happening. I’d ideally like everything done in the next 4-5 weeks so we have a few weeks to chill (hopefully) before the little guy makes his appearance!

I’m still getting a lot of pain in my ribs and hips when I’m lying down and that makes sleeping pretty hard. I wake up probably about 6 times a night to roll over and try and get comfy. I’ve tried pillows and everything but they don’t really make a difference. Luckily, this is the worst symptom I’ve had the whole pregnancy and we are nearing the end so I really can’t complain too much.  Weirdly enough I haven’t had the symptom of needing to pee during the night, so I’m enjoying that while it lasts!

How many weeks? 31
Size of baby? The size of a coconut – crazy!
Total weight gain? 7kg from the start of pregnancy
Cravings? None really, although I won’t say no to fudge or chocolate…
What I miss? Runny eggs and deli ham.
What I’m looking forward to? Setting up the nursery!
