How to Style: A Kimono

How to Style a Kimono

The kimono is one of my favourite items to wear in the warmer months. It’s a beautiful light layer that offers both a little bit of sun protection during the really hot days and a little bit of warmth on those summer nights. Most kimonos are made from a very light chiffon-like layer, that also means they are very easy to throw in your bag without taking up too much room.

There are lot of different styles and lengths of kimonos to choose from. There are long duster-like coats, short bolero-like versions, and the medium length like this one I’m wearing. I personally think the medium is the most versatile, and being on the petite side, a longer length doesn’t always work on me. There are also a tonne of prints and styles you can choose from – some have a tie waist for a classic kimono like style, while others are worn open.

I’m currently loving this kimono from Outershell Clothing. It’s the Kimmy Kimono and you can read a little more about it here. It’s a beautiful soft pink with a floral print, and is made from a floaty chiffon. It’s a really beautiful style and the colour is easy to pair with lots of other shades. It’s also only $49 which is makes it an affordable option!
