17 NZ Made Beauty Brands

Essano Concentrated Serums Review

One thing that’s becoming apparent is the emphasis to buy local. This is something I’ve really been trying to do more of lately, and while I’m far from perfect, I think knowing where our products come from is something that is important. I have been making more of an effort to choose Kiwi-made products, and when I decided to do this round up of NZ made beauty products, I was actually super impressed to see just how many are made right here in little old NZ!

If you are after a new beauty brand or beauty product, then I urge you to try one of the below brands, and help to support locally made! If you know of any other NZ made beauty brands, then please leave them in the comments below!

Here are 17 NZ made beauty brands!

OKANA SKINCARE

Okana Skincare is all about simplifying skincare and the belief that less is more, and I absolutely love this approach. If you look at their product line, you’ll see there’s only the essential products, and if you take a look at their ingredients list you’ll likely be amazed. Some of their products have as little as seven ingredients – they like to keep it super simple and only include natural ingredients that offer key benefits – no fillers! Their products are also so fresh and so natural, that you could literally eat them, as they are packed with fruit extracts, vegetable purees, and natural oils. Literally as fresh as it gets when it comes to skincare!

ALEPH MAKEUP

Aleph Makeup is one of the very few all natural NZ-made makeup brands, so of course this one had to make the list. Crafted from all-natural, raw ingredients, Aleph Makeup is also vegan and gluten free. Aleph formulate their products to work as high performance makeup, that’s strong enough for a camera-ready look, yet natural looking for an everyday glow. They have a range of foundations, blush and highlights in a number of shades. The products are packaged in super cute wee glass pottles, making them an environmentally friendly makeup option.

Foxglow Perfume Review

FOXGLOW PERFUMES

I don’t use regular perfumes anymore, choosing instead to use the Foxglow perfumes. These are made from perfume oil, and come in a range of scents inspired by well-known scents from the likes of Prada, YSL, Viktor & Rolf and more. These perfumes are applied as roll ons (which are so much easier and more usable than sprays!) I love how I can pop these in my purse for a top up later on, and the small compact size takes up so much less room than larger perfume bottles. They are also a much better option if you are concerned about the amount of chemicals in regular perfumes, or if you have a skin intolerance to alcohol which many regular perfumes contain. I honestly love these and wouldn’t go back to regular perfume now. Feel free to use my code SARAHLILLY for 10% off!

DEPARTMENT OF SOUL

In my opinion, natural deodorants are a must. I’ve done a lot of research on the chemicals in traditional deodorants, and I know there is no way I could go back to using a regular one anymore! In the past few years since I made the switch, I’ve tried a few brands, and Dept of Soul was one of my favourites! At the time I didn’t actually realise it was a Kiwi made brand, and this gives in added thumbs up for me! The Dept of Soul deodorants are extremely effective in stopping odour (without actually stopping you from sweating) and they come in a range of beautiful scents. My fave is the Vanilla and Cinnamon, and their lip balms are also amazing too!

ANTIPODES SKINCARE

Antipodes is one of my all time favourite skincare brands, and I’ve been a huge fan of this brand for years now. Antipodes are well known for their natural yet effective skincare products, and their whole philosophy is scientific green beauty. They take natural products that are science backed and formulate them into effective and results driven skincare. Their serums and moisturisers are some of my favourites, and if I could only wear one lipstick for the rest of my life, it would be one of their Healthy Lipsticks. This brand is truely a wee gem!

GIRL UNDISCOVERED

This incredible NZ brand describes itself as 100% Wild, and they create a range of beautiful and unique skincare products. Their products are made from potent unique ingredients, sourced ethically from around the world. Each ingredient is as natural and uncontaminated as possible, and are free from mass corporate plantations, pesticides and sprays – making them as pure as they get! Girl Undiscovered also create their products in glass bottles, and the lids are made from recyclable plastic and can continue to be recycled.

Essano Concentrated Serums Review

ESSANO SKINCARE

Hands down my favourite brand on this list, is the incredible Essano Skincare. Made in NZ from natural ingredients, this brand’s products retail for under $25 and are available from the supermarket. They are affordable, effective and this brand really proves you don’t need to spend truck loads on skincare to get results. A lot of their packaging is also made from recycled plastic, so that gives them a big thumbs up too! You can read more reviews of Essano products here.

SKINFOOD

Skinfood would have to be one of the most affordable natural skincare brands on this list, and one that I highly recommend if you are on a budget. They offer a full range of skincare, from makeup removal wipes to a hyaluronic moisturiser! All of the Skinfood products are designed for sensitive skin, and all are cruelty free and vegetarian. All of the ingredients in Skinfood products have been sustainably harvested and are sourced from sustainable suppliers.

ARTURE SKINCARE

Arture Skincare is a specialist skincare range that offers Medispa results with natural ingredients. They include no synthetic or artificial ingredients in their products, and offer a range of unique skincare products. From a microdermabrasion cream, to a natural retinol, and a lash growth serum, Arture’s products are all designed to fix a certain skin or beauty concern.

BEES BRILLIANCE

Bees Brilliance is a skincare range that celebrates the fact that less is really more. They are wanting to make skincare less complicated, less ingredients that can be harmful, and less harm to the environment. They are on a mission to make products that are effective, and require a lesser number of seperate products. They offer a range of skincare products, from cleansers and toners to treatments and even a sanitising spray – all packed with the goodness of honey.

TAILOR SKINCARE

Tailor Skincare is a range of all-natural skincare and luminizers. I used to use a lot of the Tailor Products and was always impressed by the quality of the products for the price! This cruelty-free brand offers a range of different skincare products, which are tailored to each skincare need. Each product contains high quality, potent ingredients to target a range of skin concerns and ages.

ManukaRx Pro-Aging Trio

MANUKARX

ManukaRx has quickly become one of my all-time favourite skincare brands and it’s made right here in NZ! All of their products contain East Cape Manuka Oil which is anti-bacterial, anti-aging and full of antioxidants. Whether you are after skin care for anti-aging or for preventing acne, ManukaRx has you covered with their effective and completely natural range of skincare product. Honestly love these guys and you can read some of my reviews of the ManukaRx products here

SAVAR SKINCARE

Savar Skincare was my go-to natural skincare a few years ago, and I was absolutely obsessed with this brand for the longest time! Savar’s products are beautifully made and offer the ultimate in natural luxury skincare. The packaging for this brand is absolutely on point, with everything designed and packed so beautifully. Their skincare and bath products are all beautiful, and smell incredible. The Ultra Boost Toner and Rosehip Ultra Brightening Serums are a must-try!

TRILOGY SKINCARE

Probably the most well-known NZ skincare brand globally would have to be Trilogy Skincare. Loved by many celebs and even royals, this natural skincare brand is insanely popular around the globe and has won many international awards. I’ll be honest when it came to writing this post, I actually double checked to make sure that Trilogy were still made in NZ, since they have become such a big brand – and often this means products can be made off shore. I was so happy to see they still are. My favourite picks? Their Rosehip Oil and the Mineral Mud Mask.

LIVING NATURE

Living Nature are one of the few brands I’m mentioning that offer both skincare AND makeup. The range of skincare includes cleansers, toners, serums and masks – with something for all skin types. Their makeup range includes a full makeup range of foundations, cheek products, lip products and eye products. Over the years, I’ve used A LOT of their products and have always been really impressed with the quality, affordability, and application of their products. In fact, the Thickening Mascara is one of my all time favourites.

ETHIQUE

It’s likely you’ve heard of Ethique – the brand that revolutionised solid shampoo and body care products. Ethique offer a range of bath, hair and body products – all in a solid form, meaning there is no need for plastic bottles or packaging. This is a truely sustainable and environmentally conscious way to purchase your beauty products. Their products are also vegan and cruelty free, and only include natural and sustainable ingredients. In terms of eco-friendly, you can’t get much better than Ethique.

GRIN ORAL CARE

Grin have revolutionised oral care, with their range of natural teeth products for both adults and children. They offer a range of both fluoride and fluoride-free toothpastes, and are one of the only brands I’ve seen that offer a natural whitening option WITH fluoride! Jack uses their natural Berrylicious toothpaste with fluoride and he loves it, and I love knowing he’s using a safe product, and his teeth are still being looked after!
