At the end of every week, I sit down to update this post and I can’t believe how fast time is going! It feels like it wasn’t that long ago I was excited about the first trimester nearly being over, and here we are heading towards the start of the third! I can officially say I’m six months pregnant, and I feel so lucky to be feeling really good (well….most days, anyways!).
Week 22
This was a big week for getting things sorted. We put our deposit down on our new car (which is currently stuck on a boat off the coast somewhere so we aren’t exactly sure when it will be arriving!). We also signed the contract to get our whole house double glazed which is something I am so excited for. We currently have awful old wooden windows, so I’m super excited to get the new aluminium double glazed ones which will be so much warmer for winter.
I purchased so many new baby things this week, including ordering the cot. I also started to purchase the nursery decor so we will be all ready to go once the nursery is done. Of course, I also ended up buying some gorgeous little outfits and baby’s first soft toy too. I know he’s going to be too young to enjoy soft toys for a while, but I just couldn’t bare the thought of him coming home and not having a little friend! It made me so sad – I think I’m going crazy! I have a list of all the things I need to buy and I figure by getting a few things each week, it will create less stress later on.
I felt really good this week, and bubs is kicking again like a madman. It’s great to feel him throughout the whole day now, and even when I’m up and about. He is definitely getting stronger and much bigger.
Week 23
I always thought pregnancy craving were a bit of a myth as I could never imagine myself craving something, but now I know that it’s totally a thing! I’m obsessed with bread. Seriously, tomatoes on toast, toast and soup, hot cross buns. If it’s bread, I’ll eat it (and extra points if it’s hot and covered in butter). I swear Easter has to be the best time to be pregnant as I’ve been buying so many hot cross buns lately. Let’s just say a 6 pack doesn’t last very long in this house!
I bought so many cute little outfits for baby boy this week, including the most ridiculously cute rabbit onesie. I decided to be very prepared and got it in a size 1 so he can wear it next winter when he’s up and moving around. I just couldn’t resist, and I can’t wait to see my baby dressed as a bunny next year. I also stocked up on some more onesies (you can’t buy too many, right?!), as well as getting those very cute sailor inspired short onesies that you see in the photo above, for next summer. I’ve been buying some stuff in the summer sales for 3-9 months, so it will fit him at the end of this year. Can you tell I like to be prepared?
Week 24
This week we had our scan to see if the placenta had moved at all or if I needed to be referred to an obstetrician. While I wasn’t nervous (as really either way is going to be okay), I was just wanting to get it over and done with so I knew a bit better what was happening. Luckily it looks like everything has moved slightly, so while it still needs to be monitored, it’s definitely looking positive! They also confirmed that baby is a boy so we’ve started telling everyone (you can read the gender announcement here). We have a name sorted too, which I’ve started sharing with family and close friends, but I think for now we will keep it a secret 😉 Hint: It’s a very classic name and easy to say/spell. Place your guesses below!
Week 25
I actually don’t know where time is going, eek! Only 14 weeks left to go! This week we went and collected our pram from lay-by, so it’s nice to finally have that in the house. The last big thing left to get is the carseat and I already know which one I’m after. We are planning to get a capsule for the first few months and will then get a convertible carseat that can be used from when he’s about 6 months right through until he’s old enough to sit unattended (at around 6-8 years!). Seriously, the whole carseat thing is so overwhelming and there are so many different options. You can hire carseats, but I found them to be only tiny bit more expensive to buy, and then at least we have it for a possible #2!
We had another appointment with the midwife this week which went really well, and got to listen to baby’s heartbeat again. I have the dreaded glucose test coming up in a few weeks where they take a blood sample, make you drink an awful sugary drink, wait 2 hours, and have another blood test. For someone who hates having blood taken, I can’t say I’m particularly thrilled! At this time we are going to start making a plan for the birth, as I’m already starting to get a pretty anxious about the whole baby coming out bit. I’ve never been good with pain/hospitals/anything medical (in fact I’m the BIGGEST wuss!) so I’m keen to chat about how we can make things as simple and stress-free as possible!
Week 26
Yip, I tacked an extra week on to this post, mainly because I totally forgot to upload this last week after we were done with week 25. I swear I’m getting baby brain, as I’m managing to basically forget everything at the moment. Lists and reminders are my favourite things, and I’m so glad our dryer has a timer function as the number of times I’ve popped it on and only remembered about it a few hours later is embarrassing!
This week I’ve been feeling super tired and it gets to about 3 or 4pm and all I want to do is have a nap. I’ve also had a bit of pressure in the pelvis area which I think is just due to baby lying a bit low and head down. I’ve also had the round ligament pain, which is basically shooting pains that go up the side of the abdomen. It’s just the uterus stretching so is normal, but the number of times I’ve Googled it is probably a bit excessive. I think I need to stay off Google as it freaks me out so much reading up about pregnancy problems.
Baby is getting so strong, you can see my belly moving as he moves and I’m getting so many good kicks and movements. In fact there are some days he doesn’t stop moving and I wonder if he’s actually getting any sleep! I’ve noticed how full I’m feeling after even having small meals, and I’m guessing it’s just due to everything getting so cramped in there. I actually wonder sometimes how on earth baby is going to fit as he gets bigger!
